To be honest, in the terms of housework, I am really a lazy girl. I had not cook by myself until last Friday midnight since I came to Singapore in December. No wonder you want to know why I cooked at the midnight on last Friday. Well, a friend of my dorm mate and I would have her 19th birthday on last Saturday. My dorm mate and I had intended to treat her to dinner in a Chongqing hotpot restaurant to celebrate her first birthday in Singapore. Although we had decided which restaurant we would go to, this girl who would have birthday did not agree to eat outside. Later, we had another plan to give her a surprise!
In the afternoon on last Friday, my roommate went to the Fair Price near Labrador Lodge to buy foodstuff, such as noodles, coriander, tomatoes, eggs, and chicken stock. And as a person who had several cooking experiences, I would use these sorts of foodstuff to cook a bowl of noodles for our friend. In China, according to custom, a bowl of noodles which is called “Chang Shou Mian” is necessary for a birthday. And the old said “Chang Shou Mian” can bring person who eat it good luck, good health and longevity. Since we planned to give this bowl of noodles to her at the midnight as a surprising gift, I had to cook at 11 pm. Due to the lack of pot, I used egg poacher to cook the noodles. It was really the first time that I used new tool to cook. What an unforgettable memory it was!
Fortunately, eventually there were delicious noodles inside the egg poacher. Having seen her eating the noodles I cooked, I felt joyful too. Through this little stuff in my life, I really felt that giving the people rose, the hands have lingering fragrance.
I could imagine your noodles on the egg poacher. Just like the pasta. According to your description, you must cook very well. I think it is quite a different feeling when a person living abroad eat "Chang Shou Mian" on her birthday. I believe that she might feel homesick but happy at that moment. I think she is very lucky since she has a good friend who could cook for her even at midnight. Hope your friendship will last forever.^_^
ReplyDeleteThrough your long reply, we could feel you have changed a lot lol. Thanks for your wish! And I think maybe I have some gift in cooking. However, I will learn more dishes from my mother and grandma after I come back to my hometown in winter. We often experience some stuff in daily life that moves us deeply. Having done this thing to my friend, I felt moved by myself too.
DeleteYeah! Learn more dishes and you will be popular among men. I am sure of this!
DeleteIt is amazing to me that you can celebrate the birthday in such a funny and meaningful way. By the way, where did you get the egg poacher? Is the girl a frugal one? The hotpot in Singapore I think maybe a little expensive
ReplyDeleteSince you have gift in cooking, you can practice more. Don't waste your talent! Besides, your last sentence is a translation from Chinese.I find in the dictionary the Englsih version of this Chinese proverb is " give anything received from you, give a rose to you".
