Blog 3: Some lessons about making friends after my watching an animation

Recently I am watching an animation named I have few friends. The funny things people in the animation did make me laugh as well as think.

Because of the appearance of the 17-year-old hero, the classmates all consider him as a “social youth”, so everyone is afraid of being his friend. But in fact, he is a very kind and considerate man. This tells us, it is not enough to have a beautiful heart if you want to make friends, but also you should show it and let others know.

Things changes when the hero meets the heroine. Both of them have few friends and they finally established a club in school after discussing. The name of the club is “close people club”. Then the club members are added one by. Both of them do club activities happily every week and make many other friends. This tells us, if you don’t have friends, then joining an organization or club can be a good choice. You can spend your time meaningfully and know many people as well, maybe among which you can find your real friends. Oh, I forgot one thing: the members in the club also had few friends before. So it could be better that the club you choose is the one in which there are many people who have something in common with you.

I haven’t finished the animation yet. It is still possible for me to find more lessons later on.

Blog 3 My missing Spring Festival.

My father’s hometown is Zhuanghe, a city belongs to Dalian.  When I was young, all my family members would go back to Zhuanghe to celebrate the Spring Festival for almost one week every year.  The place we stayed was in the countryside.  Therefore, I have the chance to see slaughtering domestic animals in person.  At that time, the courtyard was full of cheering and laughing.  Could you imagine that busy and impressive scene?  Besides this, I, my elder brother and two elder sisters would have fun together.  I remember the time we rode our bikes on the paths of the hill; I remember the time we played mahjong and poker together; I remember the time we set off beautiful fireworks at midnight; I also remember…  Those are my precious memories which I will never forget.  However, several years ago, a house was bought in Dalian for my grandma so that we could look after her better. My two sisters were all married.  From then on, I never went back to Zhuanghe but only have few meals at my grandma’s, without fireworks, without mahjong, only with a television.  I cannot remember since when I no longer expected the Spring Festival.  The fact is that, my Spring Festival was lost in the modern life and what’s more, I am no longer young.

Blog 3 :Facing the coming future

“What on earth do I want?”  This is not the first time I ask myself such a question. I still remember how suffering the days are when I have to decide the major I am probably going to learn for four years at least after the college entrance exam. Time flies.  The god makes a joke on me and now I have to make such a tough decision again.  Before I came here, I always comforted me that I would have much time to learn about the majors after I arrived in Singapore. However, the overview talk in Engineering Faculty alarmed me that the remaining time is not long any more.
Engineering Faculty has many good majors. In the ten majors for us to choose from, many seem to be really good choice.  For example, Electrical Engineering(EE), Information and System Engineering(ISE), Computing Engineering(CE), and Mechanical Engineering(ME) are all pretty good choice for me.  All of them are very interesting and practical.  ISE is one of the best majors but it is very difficult to be selected in. EE and ME are very full of wonder. But I am also interested in computing.  So it is really tough to choose one among all the good majors.
Choice should be based on interest but I have not found my true love yet.  In other words, my hobby is so broad that I could not decide which one is my favorite. Since choosing major is such a serious and significant issue, I don't dare to make cursory decision.  I only hope to find my favorite soon.
It is time to face the coming future and make decision soon.

The feeling in the Singapore Flyer

Singapore has many places worth visiting and, the Sinapore Flyer is one of them. Fortunately, I visited it on the last sunday with my parents.
The flyer is the largest one in the world, so we saw it clearly in a distence when we went out of the MRT station. After buying the tickets, we began our small journey in the flyer. First, before taking on the real flyer, we visit a knowledge corridor, which shows us a plenty of information about the flyer and what has changed during these years in Singapore by using advanced technology. Soon after we finished this part, we moved on to the flyer. The flyer can hold about 10 persons in each room, in which you can either sit down or stand. As the flyer moved, farther and farther, more and more things we could see. At that time, I began to find that Singapore is covered by wonderful tall buildings and beautiful rivers. The air is pure and the environment is clean, which surely make Singapore a more attractive place.
After taking off the flyer, I knew more about the place I was going to live and study in and, I am proud of the experience here.

Blog 3: Where do you want to go on recess week?

Our recess week is coming. Do you have any plan of your journey? Now let me introduce some places of interest to you. They are all interesting and economical.

Singapore zoo

For a rainforest experience, check out Singapore zoo. Home to over 3000 specimens from 316 species, the zoo`s beautiful and educational “open concept” environment spans over 28 hectares. You can opt to cover the ground on foot or hop onto the trams.

Night Safari

If you are a night owl, you can go to the Night Safari for an after-dark experience with similarly nocturnal creatures. The world`s first wildlife park for nocturnal animals, the 40-hectare park has over 1000 animals from 115 species. Watch as they frolic, graze and hunt as their night begins. Hop onboard the 40-minite tram ride to travel the eight regions housed in the park.

Singapore Flyer

Singapore Flyer, the world's largest giant observation wheel, gives a 360 panoramic view of Singapore, from the fast-changing Marina Bay that is transforming by the minute, to the islands of Malaysia and Indonesia. It is the best vantage point of Singapore to see and feel the vibrancy of the beautiful and colorful city. Besides enjoying the 30-minute ride on the 165-metre tall Singapore Flyer, the exciting mix of specialty and lifestyle concept shops at the three-story Retail Terminal

There are so many amazing places. Have you decided where to go? Let`s look forward to our recess week!

Blog 3: The GIVE programme workshop

On February 26th, we SM3 students who have been selected to take part in the GIVE programme were arranged to attend a workshop in a park. In the workshop, I learned a lot, including the importance to give clear instructions, keep patient and have team spirit.

I didn’t realize how important it is to give clear instructions and how difficult it can be. In the first game in the workshop, our group were divided into two teams. One team use balls and sticks to build something and tell the other team to build the same thing using the same material. During the game, we cannot see them and neither can them. It was really difficult to just use words to instruct and we even didn’t know what they were doing was right or not. Finally we made it but it took us a huge amount of time. It can also happen in the class if unclear instructions are given to students. Hence, good instructions can help prevent problems.

In addition, we learned how vital it is to keep patient from another game, in which we needed to use mathematics knowledge to solve a chess problem. It’s so complicated that we nearly began to argue even though there was no limit of time. We tried several times before we succeed at last. Discussions shouldn’t become arguments. I cannot imagine what the consequence could be if we had argued.

What’s more, team spirit is also of significance. In the third game, we were given a special machine that could move only if every member on it raises their left legs together and then their right legs together. That was a great lesson telling us that every member in the team is equally important and that only by working together can a team finally achieve their goals.

Thanks to this workshop, I believe I can do better in the GIVE programme knowing I should give clear instructions, keep patient and be cooperative.

Blog 3 Last Week

Several important things happened during last week.  Last Thursday, we had our Progress Test 1 in the morning, and I really suffered a lot from it.  Through this test, I realized my shortages in learning English.  My vocabulary is far from enough, and my writing skill is poor too.  When I was writing an essay, I always felt that I can’t express myself well and can’t use words accurately.  This situation makes me very upset.  However, I won’t lose confidence because of this.  In the next few weeks, I will try my best to memorize more words and practice more to improve my writing skills.

In the afternoon, we had a learning journey in the National Museum. We visited several galleries in it, such as History Gallery, Living Gallery, and the Goh Seng Choo Gallery.  In this journey, I learned more about Singapore’s history and known more about local living styles there.  The only pity of that journey is the lack of time.  The National Museum is a very good place, and I will visit it again someday.

On Friday night, I watched a movie called “Amazing Grace” with my friends.  The movie is based on the true story of William Wilberforce, a British statesman and reformer who fight 20 years to abolish the British slave trade and finally won in 1807.  The Amazing Grace is inspiring and educational for me.  Besides, I also learned lots of new words after watching this movie.  I really benefited a lot from it.

Last week was very exciting and I’m looking forward to our recess week!

Blog 3: Praise of Singapore Zoo

After visiting Singapore Zoo, I downright fall in love with this animal heaven.  There is no doubt that Singapore Zoo is one of the best zoos in the world !
Although the zoo is not so wide, it is well designed and feels neat and beautiful.  Trees, grass and paths live in perfect harmony.  people build very good environment for animals to live in.  They build a small mountain for tigers, a swamp for crocodiles,  a forest for birds, small wood for monkeys.  Every scene they build is natural enough to let animals live there comfortably.  Every single animal is happy and satisfied with the living condition it gets.  They are eating, running, lying in the sun or beneath trees.  You can even see monkeys climbing trees and jumping above your head.  Everything here let you forget that you are only in a zoo.
The zoo also makes great effort to allow people to get closed to animals as much as possible.  To instance, there is no glass between people and lions.  In stead, the zoo built a creek to make sure that the lion would not be a able to leap over the low fence between visitors and them.  It provide a better vision for visitors to observe lions. As for some animals that is not aggressive, you even can touch them if they are not afraid of you.
I really appreciate that Singapore Zoo provides animals such a warm home and also provides visitors a great place to get alone with these cute creatures!  I hope that one day all the zoos in the world can be like Singapore Zoo.

Blog 3: Shall I choose science or engin

Last saturday, the engineer faculty presented us a speech in order to tempt us into choosing majors related to engin as our subject. I did learn about something about the majors in engin faculty.I thought I might join the engin faculty. But I still hesitate about my choice. In fact, I really have interest in engin. I like doing experiment. I know from the briefing that after each experiment, we would have some reports to finish. Here in Singpore, every assignment should be written in English. But after nearly two months English studyI find that I am weak in writing, which hinder me from choosing engin. While I would face the same problem if I choose science. So I think the most important thing is to polish up my English. Then I could make a solid foundation for my future study. Anyway, I would try my best to make my dream come true.

Blog 3 My Major

I always believe I will major in physics in college, because compared with maths, chemistry and biology I am more interested and good at physics. And I always believe if I would become a successful man in the future, it’s very likely in physics career. But recently after I listened many lectures about the introductions to many subjects, I learned many advantages and career prospects about other majors so that I am very hesitated. I even become doubtful about my interest and what I really want to study. I don’t think I am fit for being a scientist but I do enjoy solving difficult problems, and I always think engineers are guided by scientists’ theories and instructions which motivates me to become a scientist rather than engineer. On the other hand, I enjoy solving problems more realistic and practical so that I am also thinking about being a businessman. But in fact many businessmen do not only study business but also science in their college, therefore, I go back to the original point that I want to major in science.
Fortunately I still have time to think it over, I hope that I can select the right major at last.

Blog 3

Focus on today but not too much on blurry future
I like an intersting sentence very much. The sentence is that yesterday is the debt;tomorrow
is the loan while today is all the property we have. Maybe, it is reasonable to focus on today but not too much on blurry future.
According to what I have observed, some young adults sometimes will feel very confused about their future. "Try to be a scientist? Oh, it is boring and difficult." "Why not learn engineering? But engineer is a hard job and cannot earn so much money." They always are thinking and then write very sad words on the Internet. Subsequently, time flies and they achieve nothing.
There is a gold principle that divide the time of achieving an assighment into several periods of time which is 20minutes, and between two periods of time, we should get a rest for a short time, for instance, 5 minutes. It is said that if we use this principle, we would achieve our goals in shorter time. Furthermore, I tried to follow the principle and it really worked. At the same time, I felt very satisfied with myself, because not merely I finished a tough assighment in less time, but also time was significant and not wasted. A professor of the Harvard once told an intelligent but confused student that I would strive today rather than paying too much attention to the hazy future. The student realized something and took on his work. Finally, he was the best student in the graduation commencement.
In briefly, tomorrow is virtual, and a goal of the future is enough; cooking today in the best way seems to be more realistic. Let us begin with trying the "20 minutes gold principle"!^-^

Blog 3 Marva Collins——An extraordinary woman

Last week, we talked about gender roles in our society, so today I would like to introduce an extraordinary woman who has played an important role in education development.

Marva Collins was born in Alabama in the 1930s when there was a great deal of discrimination. Working so hard, she conquered the difficulties and became a decent secretary. However, as time passed, she found that her real passion was in teaching. After two years’ night-school study, she went to Chicago and became a qualified teacher. At first, to her great disappointment, students there were involved in crimes and drugs and the whole society was in great disorder. Being so confident and positive, Marva Collins believed that things were going to be different.

On the first day of her class, she told the so called “unteachable” students that they were going to make a great difference and she repeated that belief again and again to encourage all her students. She appreciated them and gave them high expectations to rebuild their confidence. What was more, she tried to cultivate the strength by using positive ways in teaching. For instance, when the students misbehaved, what they had to do was to write 100 reasons why they were too wonderful to do what they had done. In addition, the reasons had to be in alpha order which was more challenging. Subsequently, the simple reason for the students being obedient was that they were tired of telling her how wonderful they were. It may sound ridiculous but it really worked at that specific time for those students who had almost lost their self-esteems before receiving the support from Marva Collins.

Marva Collins applied her real love and patience in helping the students back on track and what she did laid the foundation of positive teaching which benefited a splendid array of students afterwards.

When she was interviewed, Marva Collins said that her real passion was in teaching and that was the only reason for her to be persistent all the way. It impressed me most and I began to realize that it is our passion that determines what we can achieve, far more than our ability itself.

From my perspective, both men and women can do quite well as long as they are doing what they really want to do. I hope that all of us can make great achievements in the suitable fields and learn to live a positive life as well.

Blog3:Try to Teach

I will soon be giving lessons on Chinese chess to some students in a secondary school from
next month. I can never imagine I will teach someone my favorite hobby one day. Today I attended the Volunteer Workshop (Give) Programme and learned a lot about teaching. It is really not easy to stand in front and give speeches freely. I feel excited about this coming challenge. Here I want to share my understanding of how to teach well.
The primary thing a teacher needs to take concern on is the classroom management. A good class order is the premise of teaching. Teachers usually use assertive discipline to manage students’ behavior. In this way they manage to improve their efficiency of teaching. It is indispensible for teachers to focus on their classes and keep using good manner. Physical punishment and sarcasm are absolutely forbidden to use. Otherwise, teachers are also required to know how to deal with conflicts which may happen in class.
The second thing is the mentoring skill. Mentoring is to support and encourage students to manage their own learning. After that they may maximize their potential and achieve their goals. Teachers are expected to listen attentively to their students’ confusion and build harmonious relationships with them. Students may benefit a lot from an enthusiastic and encouraging mentor.
The third thing for a teacher should be making lesson plans. An outstanding teacher is usually
familiar with what he will teach to his students. He does not remember the lessons word by word but keeping the main points in his mind. Teachers need to set their lesson goals and design formats about activities and resources. In addition, time management cannot be ignored. After preparing all these things well, I am certain that they can give splendid lessons.
From my perspective, the most considerable characters of a good teacher are enthusiasm and
responsibility. I will do my best to prepare well for my lessons.

Blog 2: Renascence

My topic is quite mysterious and unique. Now I want you to know something happening to me recently. Before I have seen a film named 127 Hours. The first character is an adventurous man and his arm was trapped in a gash of the mountain he climbed. He was boxed there wholly three days and he finally escaped by cutting his arm. Then I thought I would never encounter such things because I was not brave enough to try dangerous things . Nevertheless God might want to play jokes on me. Something serious happened inadvertently to me about three months ago. During this period, I was painful, frightened and even desperate sometimes. I could not concentrate on my study. But I must pretend to be happy all the time. Once one meet obstacles, he tend to think his life deeply. When peers around me are at ease, I become serious about life and have thought a lot about the meaning of my life. Gradually I realize that what I really want to do is contributing to world and helping people who are needed.
Another thing I have considered recently is the fear. At the beginning, I was afraid of the bad result which might happen in the future. Whereas when I became poised about that thing after a long-time struggling, I still feared. And when everything is proved to be ok in previous days, which means that I can begin to lead a normal life, I even cannot stop my fear and anxiety. In my view, there are two reasons. First, I need some time to recover from this quite unusual and dangerous experience. Second, I understand that what I feared is fear itself. I have decided to be strong, but I cannot escape from my fear. What scared me later is not the thing but my subjective thinking.
There is really renascence in my life. I will try my best to recover and be myself again.
I am sorry I cannot tell you the details about this episode. Just remember that no matter where you are, TAKE CARE.

Blog 2: "Linsanity", a positive influence on Asians.

"Where amazing happens" is the slogan of NBA.  Well , it seems true.
Jeremy Lin, a guy from Harvard entered NBA in 2010. At first he was just a beach player. 2.6 points per games make him unknown.  Now? He is on the cover of <<TIME>>.
Because of his crazy shows recently, he now is renowned in the whole association.  People in NYC even consider him as their hero.  Nnicks has won 8 games continuously due to Lin's play.He has become a super star and a idol over one night .   That is really incredible!  You don't know him? Go Google (or Baidu....)
It means too much for a Asian to success in NBA, not only for the player but also for the fans of basketball , because it is much more difficult for a yellow race person to do good in basketball due to the physic factors. Lin proves that Asians have their way to success in NBA.  Though he is not a real Chinese, his success invigorate many young people in China.  He sets up a great example. Encouragement , dream, hope, persistence. those are all we learn from Lin.That is a positive influence.
I hope there will more and more Asian player getting hot in NBA!

the interesting class

This Tuesday, we had an interesting class because everyone had a chance to share our story with other friends. Everyone has made all their efforts to make the story more interesting and clearer. And the standard is including two parts topic and description. According to this standard, we should give our own marks to judge which is the best one. And the percentage of the topic is 40% and the description is 60%. When I was on stage, I felt very nervous because I did not have a chance to review the story before the class. So when I was addressing my story, my leg cannot help shaking. Fortunately, I was able to tell the story completely. And the outcome was the same as I expected that everyone laughed, although my story was not the best. And the most interesting one is yushuzhi’s story which was about his pre-life. Besides this, many ghost stories are so horrifying that it made many of us keep shuddering such as the lamp, the mist, and a girl out of photo. Maybe because of my low English level, I could not understand some of the stories. I hope these activities could be held more often.

Blog 2: A Happy Sunday

Having not met Grace, a befriender for a long time, she missed me and Helena very much. She majors in food science in NUS and that is because of her interest in cook. Because of these, she promised to teach us to bake cookies. Last Saturday she sent a message to us to invite us to her home. Therefore Helena and I went there excitedly by MRT .
Grace had a cute dog called Bailey, which has long and white fur. Wherever Grace went, it followed behind. It seemed that the owner was the only one he loved-up. Bailey was especially intelligent. When we said “Sit”, he would follow at once. If I reached out my right hand and said “paw”, he would put his left paw to me. And if I reached out my left hand, he would put the other paw. But he was so esurient that we must hold the food high enough otherwise he would stand up to reach it.
After playing with Bailey for a long time, we began to bake cookies. It was really a tiring job for Helena and me to stir 3 cups of flour, 2 cup of white and brown sugar and a block of butter all together. However Grace just stood beside us to direct, because she said she just played the role of a teacher to let us do it by ourselves so that we would understand it. We also put some vanilla essence and pieces of chocolate and salt into the cream. It smelt delicious so that we could not wait any more to taste the baked cookies. Unfortunately the first time the cookies we baked in the oven were too ugly. Before bucker shop, every cookie was too large so that they connected all together. We had to cut it up. We should thank god that even though they were in ugly shape, they still tasted great. However, I can swear the following cookies were both delicious and good-looking.
We ate a lot and of course Bailey was kept far away in his own bed. I also took some to Labrador Lodge for my roommates to taste. I was glad that all of them enjoyed those cookies. It was the best Sunday since I came to Singapore. I really enjoyed the time spent with dear friends.

Blog 2 the second month in Singapore

In this month, I experienced my first Spring Festival away from home.  Although it’s a pity that I can’t celebrate it with my family, this Chinese New Year is really interesting and special.

On the Lunar New Year Eve, we celebrate together with our seniors from Jilin University. They prepared many delicious foods for us, snakes, drinks, and dumplings.  We played games, watched movies and the Spring Festival Gala together.  Actually I thought this gala was not as good as I had expected.

On the Lantern Festival, I and my roommates bought some rice balls and cooked them in the microwave oven.  We failed several times because all of us hadn’t cooked it in a microwave oven, but at last we finally succeeded.  Those were the most delicious rice balls I have ever eaten because we cooked it by ourselves.

Besides, I also visited our host family during the Chinese New Year.  They are a kind couple with a little smart son. The hostess cooked very delicious dinner for us.  During her cooking, the host chatted with us and taught us how to play “Jungle speed” -- a kind of card game. It is very interesting and we really had a great time that night.  Before we were leaving, they invited us to join in a game on February, we accepted it and I’m looking forward to it.

This month is full of joy and I enjoy living there in Singapore very much!

Blog 2 : “The Lamp”

I hope you still remember the story I told in the class storytelling contest, my friends. But never mind if not, I’ll attach the text in the end. Here I’ll talk more about it.

Maybe the story sounds like cold humor at first sight; at least my roommate thinks so. In fact I didn’t intend to make it a funny story. I want to express (at least) two serious points through it.

The first one is a little negative, as well as realistic: The person you follow can be totally wrong, so be careful. You can see, in the end of the story, “I” finally knew that the girl regarded the washing room as a normal study room (please don’t doubt the possibility, her eyesight was really poor and she hadn’t been inside before) and that was the reason why she could insist staying up for study, also the indirect reason for me. She was encouraged by an imaginary student!

The second is: despite the fact that she was wrong, just believe in her, and then everything is Ok. If I hadn’t come to her house, I would still be impelled by her to study more hard. It’s a good thing for me. But I already knew, maybe after that, I would return to the original state. So on the contrary to the first point, sometimes when you have an unquestioning belief, things can be better. That is, it is how deeply you believe but not what you believe that matters.

So, which one do you agree? Or both (actually I do)? Or neither? Maybe you have better thoughts. Look forward to your comments!

The Lamp
When I was a junior high school student, I was not very hard-working until I found a girl study very late every night. Her room was always lit, even after I went to bed. I could see her through my windows every day since her house was opposite to mine. I had seen her in our Grade Conference before but only knew her name and her outstanding academic results in our grade.
One day, the lamp in her room was off as early as 9 pm, which was abnormal for her. But the next day was the same. I wondered whether she was ill or not and decided to visit her at the third day. After all, it was she who encouraged me to study hard though there was not one word. With some apples, I knocked at the door. Exactly, she opened the door after I said who I was and why I came. After simple greeting, I was in the living room and she told me that she surely had a cold but not serious. Then I asked her a question I thought of for a long time, “How can you stay up so late for study every night? It is not an easy thing. And you have already got so high marks. There is no need, I think.” Smiling, she replied, “I think I did not stay very late, because, you can see, there is a room outside my windows. It is always bright at night as I know. The person in that room stays up later than me every day.” After hearing that, I regretted for my question. How can you imagine the room she pointed at is a public washing room!

Blog Two:Why should youngers experience being an old man?

Several days ago, I got an intersting news that the scientists in the US invented an "old man clothes" which looks like a space suit and when you wear the clothes, you will find that you cannot move freely; what you can see is not clear any more and for lack of oxygen, you may easily get tired. In a word, after wearing the clothes, you will be "old". The product is invented for youngers to experience being an old man.

Respecting the old is a part of morality and everyone will benefit from the morality, but some young people always do not know the difficulty and notice the emotion of the aged.I cannot forget another news that several years ago in Nanjin when a young walked behind an old man who walked slowly, the young was so annoyed for the speed that he pushed the old man down. The push made me despair at the time.

There is my experience about the difficulty of the old. I like eating the hard rice. And one day my grandmother came to my home, and we still cook the hard rice. I enjoyed the rice very much, but grandmother ate quite slowly. After the meal, she felt sick in her stomach. At that time, I knew that she was too old to eat the hard food.

There are so many difficulties of the old;though we are still young, we should also know the old's trouble and try to understand and help them from now on but not after we wear the "old man clothes".

Blog 2 :Followers of Chinese Style Music

Recently I have listened many English songs, aiming to improve English and enjoy fair-sounding music at the same time.  English is also great but it reminds me of Chinese style music.  Checking my music list, I found Chinese style music makes up a big part in Chinese songs. And there are three followers of Chinese style music that I like most.

Jay Chou comes to the first one.  I have been enjoying his music for many years. It’s him that makes me to be fond of Chinese style music.  Jay is also the most famous follower of Chinese style music. Somebody even call this style “Chou style”, though he does not agree.  He regularly fuses traditional Chinese instruments and styles with R&B or rock thereby form a new genre-Chinese style.  His famous opuses of Chinese style includesFaraway" “Chrysanthemum Terrace” “Rice Fragrance” “East Wind Breaks” “”Hair Like Snowand so on.  Jay is the representative of Chinese style music.

Vae is the second one.  People may be more familiar with his another nameXu Song.  Indigo blue is extracted from the indigo plant but is bluer than the plant it comes from.  Vae inherits Jay’s style and performs extraordinarily well. His songs, such as “Luzhou Moon” “Rainfall on Tomb-sweeping Day” “Rudimental Snow on the Broken Bridge” “The fated enemy”, are really a hit for us, those who like Chinese style music. He is a competent follower that makes me love this kind of song much more.

The third one is Hou Xian, whose original name is Deng Wenbin.  Though he is not as famous as the two above, he devotes more time to creating excellent opuses. His songs are almost all of Chinese style.  “West Wing-room” “Tang Song Yuan Ming Qing” “Baby face” are all classical Chinese style songs. He follow this style and created many fair-sounding songs.

Chinese style music always makes me very comfortable and peaceful from soul. Thanks to these followers, I can frequently enjoy such great songs. Maybe I will also love English songs as well but the feeling will be quite different. I hope more followers can come up and create more fair-sounding songs.

Blog 2:Mum and Dad, I love you!

I have been in Singapore for two months.  During which I experienced the first Spring Festival abroad, wonderful but also made me homesick.
I lived in an one-child family, my father, my mother and me.  Like most Chinese children, I never said "I love you!" or something romantic to them since it would make all of us feel very strange.  Every time they asked me whether I miss home, my answer was always "no", though I knew that it would really hurt them.
In fact, I miss them badly. They are the two persons who brought me up in the past 18 years and they are also the two persons who love me most in the world. Remember the last time I saw them through QQ, they were smiling shyly at me.  However, at that time, I want to cry...  Both of them are no longer young, the white hair on their heads can tell.  They devoted themselves to lead me to a better future, seeking no rewards.  While the next ten years I will not be able to accompany them which should be my obligation.  Sometimes, I felt very guilty when this thought came to my mind.  I think the only thing I could do is to study hard and live happily everyday, and do not let them worry.
Mum and Dad, I love you both very much!  Best wishes to you!

Blog Two: A Surprising E-mail

For me, today seemed nothing out of the ordinary.  However, something strange came along after I came back to Labrador Lodge.

As usual, I opened my laptop to check my e-mail as soon as I arrived at my dormitory.  And there were some advertisements for online shopping and newspapers I book everyday sent to my mailbox.  To my surprise, I found there was a letter from my classmate of senior high school who had never sent an e-mail to me since I went to Singapore for future study.  I thought maybe she had lots of things to do in her winter holiday, such as coming back to our hometown, visiting her relatives who she had not seen for a long time and preparing for the Spring Festival.  Since I had never expected her to send a letter to me, I was really shocked when I saw this email from a far-away friend.

Another thing shocked me was that there was only one sentence in the content of the e-mail.  I really wanted to know whether she had made typing errors when sent the e-mail to me.  Actually I felt a little sad when I saw the only one sentence which conveyed her wish to me. Suddenly, I noticed an attachment was in this e-mail, too!  Since the size of the attachment was much large, it took me a long time to download it.  As soon as I successfully download it, I opened the attachment eagerly and found it’s a video clip……  Twenty minutes later, I finished watching the whole video clip.  I was so excited that my eyes were full of tears.  She had recorded the scenes of great joys as previous classmates were re-united with one another.  In addition, she put our two photos into the ending of the video clip. When the photos were floating on the screen, the caption appeared also which told she would always be my best friend!  The sweet scenes moved me deeply, moreover, the caption she made are not only Chinese but also English!  I laughed happily because of her action at all.  Did she think I cannot understand Chinese while studying in Singapore?  Maybe she just wanted me to use English more often.

Blog One:Happiness

I have been in Singapore for one month.  Gradually have adapted to all the novel things, I get used to the life there.  Before I came to Singapore, I was afraid that I couldn’t find the sense of belonging. In my opinion, the sense of belonging is the foundation of happiness.  To be honest, my eternal life goal is HAPPINESS.  With time passing, something that makes me gain happiness happened.

The first thing is smile.  Every morning, we will leave Labrador lodge for NUS CELC by the bus.  When I pass by the entrance guard, she who is an Indian always smiles  at me and says good morning in Chinese.  The friendly smile tells me a sharing, loving person inside. Victor Borge said, “laughter is the shortest distance between two people.”  I can’t agree this viewpoint any more.  The laughter I accept everyday warms my heart thoroughly as if the first light of morning  shines on snow land.

Besides, the friendship between me and befrienders brings a lot of happiness to me. As I met them at first time, they took me to the university health centre to take our health check.  During the time of waiting for check’s result, we talked a lot and became familiar with one another.  A few weeks later, they organized a unforgettable camp for us.  Even sometimes we didn’t do a good job in “station game”, our leader encouraged us cordially and told us the goal of games is not the success but the happiness we can gain from those.

Last but not the least, teachers’ care for us gives me a deep impression and their kindness really moves me. One day ,a teacher invited a girl to stand in front of us.   While we were completely baffled  by this strange behaviour, the teacher told us today was her birthday!  We sang a birthday song to her later and I noticed that this lucky girl’s eyes were around with tears.  You can imagine  how deep our  eudemonia is  since teachers can remember our birthday date when we in a unfamiliar country.

Well, to put in a nutshell, happiness is just around us if you find it.

Blog2 The review of the movie

Last Sunday, I watched a moive called"The KungFu kid". It tells about a story of an American kid who came to China where he learned KungFu from a maintenance man called Mr Han.
The boy named Dre came to Beijing China with his Mum for living . At first, Dre disliked the idea, for it made him leave his best friends in his hometown. And the emotion became even stronger after he was bullyed by a group of boys who learned Kungfu from a bad teacher. At that time, he made a female friend whom the leader of the group of boys liked. But it made the situation even worse. So Dre avoid from the group of boys everyday because he was afraid of them. However, once when he was being beat by them, Mr Han saved Dre and promised that he would teach him the real Kungfu. So after that Mr Han trained Dre very carefully and Dre practised very hard. They even practised in Wuyi mountain and the Great Wall. And during the period, Dre lost his only best female friend because her parents thought he had a bad influence on their daughter. But he helped Mr Han stand up from privious guity. Finally, Dre became a good Kungfu player and attended the Kungfu competition where he would competed with those bad boys. In the middle of the competition, he was injured in leg, but he continued the competition without giving up. Finally, he overcame his fear and defeated the boys.
The movie inspired me a lot. I think we were just that Dre, because we always have to go to a new area or new field. And we may dislike it or be afraid of the difficulties met there. The story of Dre tells us that do not scare the difficulties and never say never. Just practise hard and finally we will succeed like Dre.

Blog 2: Valentine's Day

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, whose full name is Saint Valentine's Day. It is a holiday to honor a Christian priest named Saint Valentine. It`s said that at that time, the emperor in Rome didn`t allow his soldier to get married, but Valentine helped them hold wedding ceremonies. Therefore, he was thrown into prison. What he did moved his warder and his blind daughter and they treated him well. Before his death, he wrote a letter to show his love to the blind girl. After he died, the blind girl plant a apricot tree with red flowers before his tomb to tell him how much she loved him. This day when he died was 14 Feb, which become Valentine's Day.

In Valentine's Day, the young lovers always give gifts to each other to show their love. The gifts always include chocolates, roses and diamonds. Also, a lot of people choose to get married at Valentine's Day.

Somebady says that if you are single, you should look outside as soon as you get up at Valentine's Day. It`s because that if you see a man walking alone, you will be single in this year; if you see more than one person, you can find your lover in this year; if you see one rooster and a hen, you will get married before Christmas. Nowadays it`s hard to see roosters or hens, pigeons and sparrows can be used to take the place of them.

At last, I hope everyone can find his or her lover.

Blog2: Learn to fail; fail to learn

Nearly all of the students in our group agree that the most horrible time is when the teacher is talking about our paragraphs. I understand that many of us thought we can do quite well in English and feel depressed seeing unexpected C or D on papers. We feel depressed not only because of the outcome that we failed, but also because the efforts we've made seem useless. That's why I can see disappointment when we get feedback of our paragraphs.

However, I think of it in another aspect after watching the lecture "The positive psychology", taught by a professor in Harvard University.

Firstly, we always fail before become successful; there is no shortcut. According to considerable amounts of surveys, the most successful people are always those who made the most mistakes. Looking back on my own experiences, I can't remember how many times I had fallen before I managed to walk when I was still a baby. It's really the truth that failure is unavoidable if you want to succeed.

After agreeing that the failure is acceptable, we need to grow from it. It's great to find shortcomings through failure so that you have chances to improve. Isn't it? After taking efforts to improve, I always feel happy because I am learning something to which I didn't pay attention before. That's why teachers ask us to rewrite those paragraphs.

Next time the teacher talks about our paragraphs, I hope everyone will say:" Oh! It's the greatest time!"

Blog two:My reflections on paragraph writing

Today I got the feedback of my fourth paragraph, but it still remain the same condition that quite a lot mistakes were spoted by the tutor. Since I got my first D level paragraph, which depress me very much, I have been thinking about how to improve my English writing. While every time I hand in my paragraph, the tuto can always point out some mistakes. Sometimes the sentence could be grammatically correct, but the tutor said the foreigners will not speak like that, which really confused me. In my view, to overcome this ,I need to listen more ,read more and write more.because the more listening and reading I do, the more likely that I would know how to use the word correct to make it sound like more idiomatic, and the more I write ,I could spot more mistakes, then I can learn from them. Just as the old saying that we all get progressive from the mistakes. The next things I learn from my last four paragraphs is that I am lacking in the quantity ang quality of vocabulary. what is more , my previous method to memory words is useless. Although I know the meaning of the word, I do not know how to use it in the right way. As a result, the paragragh I wrote would look like I was translating my idea into English. I know that I really have a lot of things to learn, and to improve. And I will try my best to learn English well no matter how hard it is.

Blog 2 An exciting basketball game

I think I am very lucky because my host family is really great, they have held several
activities for us, enabling us to know more about Singapore. Recently, they had booked the basketball court in NUS in advance and invited us to go there. Surprisingly, there were many young American people playing basketball there, which made me very excited for usually they play very skilfully and aggressively, and I am always looking forward to strenuous games. Since this was the first time I played basketball with American, I feel a little bit nerves. Sometimes I could not understand them precisely especially when they used some daily English like “oh my legs are out” which I was totally unfamiliar with, and I did not adapt to their tactics very well . However, I could match with them in terms of speed and strength, so gradually we established partnership which let the game flow more smoothly. And I became more confident and aggressive as well as my team members, after a two-hour long exciting game, we crushed the other team.
Because of my dear host family, I have another unforgettable memory, I really appreciate for
their kindness, thank you very much my host family!

Blog 2 The fulfilling week

During my 2nd month in Singapore, things seemed to go smoothly and I began to adapt to my new life here. Last week, we talked about telling tales which created more chances for me to speak in front of the audience. Although I was really nervous at the beginning, it was surprising that I was able to express myself more confidently days later. I really enjoyed discussing with my classmates and analyzing the details in the stories. Since that we formed a different group everyday, writing different kinds of stories also contributed to our better understanding of each other. What’s more, the most impressive thing for me was the story of the Titanic which aroused my curiousness about the whole event. So I also decided to watch the film again recently. In addition, learning how to write a narrative essay is so useful that I can talk about my fantastic experiences more freely.

However, last week, I encountered something difficult to solve when it came to the topic of grammar learning. Although I was familiar with adjective clauses, it was still a challenging task for me to figure out all the mistakes in the given sentences. I began to realize that learning grammar is not only about remembering the fixed sentence structures and the use of each word, but also to be equipped with the ability to use it correctly. So it seems that I still have a long way to go on learning grammar.

By and large, I learned a lot during last week and really had a good time with all my classmates. At last, I would like to say thank you to each of you because of your company. Let’s keep moving in the following week!

Today I want to write something about the challenges we human beings confront nowadays.
Accompanied with the advance of modern science and technology is the public optimism about the new century. The equality of people's life is rather high. It seems hard for scientists to make positive changes in the world. However, there are many serious issues that have not been tackled yet.
One of the most significant problems is the environmental conditions deterioration caused by people's improper activities. The development of industrialisation unavoidably leads to The Greenhouse Effect and desertisation. Rapid population growth makes people lack water resources to maintain their normal lives. It is also necessary for people to protect creatures from extinction.
Disease is another problem. Many incurable diseases still exist in the world, such as AIDS. The heart attack always plays a main role of killer. Some new diseases can emerge at any time. It is a great challenge to deal with these diseases and lengthen people's lives.
Futhermore, poverty and hunger should also be emphasized. According to the survey, there are approximately one sixth of people living below the poverty line. The public should consider how to boost productivity and increase crop yields. The development of agriculture can never be ignored.
In my view, as a youth in the new era, I should assume my responsibility to help tackle these problems which demand quick solutions. When people are impressed by the benifits brought by a new technology, it is important to keep calm and eliminate its negative impacts.
