blog 6 renren

Nowadays a lot of college students in China like to use a social network named as renren, which I believe to a large extend is the Chinese version of Facebook. I have a renren account, too. I realise that an immense number of student have been addicted to it. Those students place too much focus on renren that actually they have wasted too much precious time which should be spent on their study. I think there are three main reasons on this phenomena. Firstly, psychologically people are naturally afraid of being isolated. Once they have a way to be or seemingly to be in the groups they feel safe and they do not to be parted from the groups any more. Renren just offers those who want to be connected with others all the time a great stage to meet their requirements. Secondly, college students think they are thoughtful and unique that the ideas they came up with should be praised or gotten recognitions by others. Therefore, students on renren are posting their opinions or ideas about a recent event all the time and they never seem to be tired of doing so. Thirdly, students nowadays are faced with pressures all the time and the older they are, the more intensive the pressure will be. However, they could not find someone who understand them and is willing to spend his or her time listen to them because everyone has their own work to do. Fortunately, renren offers a stage for them to show their emotions, to complain and relieve their stress. You will not be surprised if you see some negative thoughts which are discussed and supported by many people on renren. By supporting those negative points of view which some students thought they could be regarded as mature mesn because they seemed to know more negative side of the society.
I appeal that we should use renren much less frequently and more appropriately than we use now, otherwise I don’t see any benefits we could have from it.

  1. I think you are a critical thinker. Since you are able to analyse the effects about renren, I think you won't be addicted to such social networks. And I'm happy I'm not as well.
