Blog 5 The Give Programme

I am lucky to be chosen to join the Give Programme, whose aim is to make us more invovled in Sinaporean life. And my duty is to teach Chinese chess to the secondray school students. And luckily the school where I teach is not far from where I live(comparing to those who have to spend approximately 2 Singapore dollars on MRT which manifests that they almost have to take the MRT from one terminal station to another )
I remember I was very nervous at the beginning of the first class, plus it was hot in the classroom, thus my sweat wet out my shirt. By the way, we are required to dress formally, no shorts or sneakers or T-shirt is allowed. But I think I concealed my nerverousness very well by making some gestures and telling some stories about mysself. Gradually everything went on well and smoothly as expected, and I could say that I even enjoyed my time teaching them afterwards.
I found that there are many differences between the education in China and Singapore. In China, we have more rules and we are more "quite" ; however, in Singapore, the children are really outgoing and willing to express their ideas and opinions. But maybe it is because the capacity of class in Singapore is much smaller than in China, so that teacher can place more concentration on each student.
Another phenomenon I found interesting is that student speak both English and Chinese, and the blend of these two languages sometimes makes me feel that they are Chinese actually which narrow the distance between me and them.
I like those children very much, they really leave me a very deep and good impression!
